What one implant costs at home, and what it costs abroad
This guide covers travel, process and cost. It contains no clinical advice.
One implant with a crown starts at £2,100 in the UK and runs to £2,950 in central London. The same pair of components comes to about £710 from a Budapest clinic's published list and about £450 from a Chișinău one. The difference is real, but the four price lists do not describe the same thing: one includes the abutment, one includes a CT scan and a temporary tooth, one includes neither. Comparing headline numbers without comparing contents is how people end up surprised at the desk.
The published prices, side by side
Every figure below was read on the page that publishes it, on 15 August 2026. None of them is a market average, and we have not adjusted any of them. Where a list is a clinic's own, it is true for that clinic and nowhere else — which is exactly how you should read a price you find on any clinic's website, including ours when we publish one.
What each list leaves out
The Budapest list states that a standard titanium abutment is included in the implant price. The Chișinău list does not mention the abutment anywhere — which does not mean it is free, it means you have to ask. The Bucharest figure is quoted as a complete implant covering placement, abutment and crown together, and it is marked as a reduced price. The UK lower-end price excludes radiographs, which are charged at £45 for a film and £120 for a CT scan.
So the honest ranking on a single tooth is closer than the headline numbers suggest. Add a plausible abutment to the Chișinău total and it lands nearer the Budapest one. Add the CT scan to the UK lower-end price and it moves the other way. The gap between home and abroad stays large; the gap between the destinations largely disappears.
If a clinic quotes you a price without having seen a CT scan, the price is a guess. Bone volume decides whether you need grafting, and grafting is the single biggest swing in an implant quote. A number given before the scan is a marketing figure wearing a quote's clothes.
Why one tooth is almost never worth the flight
That is roughly £450 against £2,100 at home — a saving of about £1,650 before travel. It sounds decisive until you remember that implant treatment is staged: placement, then months of healing, then the crown. Two trips, four flights, two blocks of accommodation and two lots of leave. On one tooth, that is most of the saving, and you have spent a fortnight of your year on it.
At three or four implants the fixed travel cost stops mattering, because it is the same fixed cost spread across three or four times the treatment. That is the whole economics of this market in one sentence, and it is why serious clinics abroad quote for cases rather than for teeth.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a dental implant cost in the UK?
Published prices on 15 August 2026 run from £2,100 for a complete single tooth at the lower end to £2,950 at a central London practice including CT planning, a temporary tooth and follow-up. Radiographs and bone grafting are usually charged separately.
How much cheaper are implants abroad?
Roughly a quarter to a fifth of UK prices on the component figures: about £710 in Budapest and about £450 in Chișinău for a fixture and crown. Those numbers exclude travel, and one of them excludes the abutment.
Does the NHS pay for dental implants?
Not routinely. Band 3 at £332.10 covers crowns, bridges and dentures. Implants are generally private treatment, which is why the private price is the fair comparison.
Why does the same implant cost three different amounts on three websites?
Because the three pages are pricing different amounts of work. One includes the abutment, one includes imaging and a temporary tooth, one covers the fixture alone. Ask each for the complete price and the exclusions.
Is Turkey cheaper than Moldova or Hungary?
We do not publish a figure for Turkey because we could not find a clinic price list we were willing to read and cite. The numbers circulating are aggregator and marketing figures, and we do not present those as prices.
